Astronomik UHC Filter – This filter was designed for the visual observation of emission and planetary nebulae but also works very well for imaging these objects, as a dual type filter, if used with an IR block. The IR block can be either inbuilt, as with a DSLR, or in combination. The Astronomik L3 type luminance filter gives particularly good results. Price includes delivery.

The IR Pro (742nm) Filter pushes the passband of the Baader and Altair IR pass filters further into the Infra Red. At these longer wavelengths, planetary images are much less disturbed by distortions in the atmosphere.
This is the best “Planet Killer” filter, based on research by Astronomik to determine the optimal passband for enhanced Planetary Imaging, with most amateur equipment.
Sensitivity of most CCD cameras is still fairly high in this region so smaller scopes (>5″) can benefit.
