GSO 8" F/4 Newtonian OTA (Standard and Astrograph)

GSO 8inch F4

GSO are famous for the quality of their optics which are, in our opinion, much better than the Chinese standard. This makes the GSO 200 F/4 Newtonian not only excellent for imaging and observing deep sky objects, but for observing the moon and planets too.

With its low focal ratio of f/4 exposure times are much shorter than with higher focal ratios (About 2/3rds those of an f/5 Newtonian and less than 1/2 those of an F6 APO refractor). This makes the GSO perfectly suited for deep sky imaging in our climate, where clear skies cannot be relied upon. It's particularly suitable for one shot colour cameras and narrowband imaging with Mono cameras.

With the addition of the Baader MPCC the OTA becomes a powerful 8" F4 astrograph, providing pin sharp stars across the full FOV of a 35mm format CCD. It would be dificult to find an APO with better imaging performance that didn't cost many times as much as the GSO!

For collimation we recommend the use of a laser collimator, which makes the process quick (30 to 60 seconds typically) and easy, we've found these units retain collimation well. Please note that all tube assemblies supplied by "Modern Astronomy" are carefully selected to have sufficient back focus for a modern DSLR.

What's Included:

  • 8" F4 Newtonian OTA
  • 8x50 finder + bracket
  • Tube rings and Vixen style dovetail
  • 2" Crayford style focuser with integrated 1:10 dual speed microfocuser and 1.25" adapter
  • Focuser extension tube for visual use
  • Mirror cooling fan and dust cover.

Astrographs include the Baader MPCC
Deluxe models have a larger 70mm secondary - ideal for larger format cameras (DSLR to 35mm)
