The QHY178M cooled mono camera has a 6 megapixel CMOS sensor with 8,9mm diagonal and Delta T of -40°C. Small 2.4 micron pixels make it ideal for high resolution Planetary and Lunar imaging as well as for imaging Deep Sky objects.

Description

The QHY178M camera has a 1/1.8 inch, megapixel CMOS sensor and 14BIT ADC. Pixel size is 2.4um square. Maximum frame rate is 50FPS @ 6 megapixel. It has both a mono version and a colour version. There’s a USB3.0 interface with two stage TEC and readout noise is from 2.4e to 0.9e.
 
128MB DDR Buffer
No one want to lose long exposure frames. As a member of QHYCCD high pixel CMOS camera range, QHY178M has a built-in 128MB DDRII image buffer. This buffer helps greatly with large image transfers and prevents the frame from being lost.  This buffer also assists with smooth running on some low speed computers or on a USB2.0 port. With this buffer you can use multiple QHY178 cameras on the same computer, with no delays to USB traffic.
 
Fully Anti-Dew Solution
With more than ten years experience in cooled CCD camera design. QHYCCD applied their full anti-dew technology to the QHY178M including the fully air proof CMOS chamber with silicon gel tube socket and CMOS window heater. With these technologies you do not need worry about dew formation on both CMOS sensor and optic window, even in a high humidity environment.

Sony’s Image Sensor Exmor R is the back-illuminated CMOS image sensor with improved sensitivity and noise reduction – the key factors to enhancing image quality, while radically realigning their fundamental pixel structure from front-illumination to back-illumination. It has retained the advantages of CMOS image sensors such as low power consumption and high-speed operation
With a conventional front-illumination structure, the metal wiring and transistors on the surface of the silicon substrate that form the sensor’s light-sensitive area (photo-diode) impede photon gathering carried out by the on-chip lens, and this has also been an important issue in the miniaturization of pixels and widening optical angle response.
A back-illuminated structure minimizes the degradation of sensitivity to optical angle response, while also increasing the amount of light that enters each pixel due to the lack of obstacles such as metal wiring and transistors that have been moved to the reverse of the silicon substrate.
However, compared to conventional front-illuminated structures, back-illuminated structures commonly causes problems such as noise, dark current, defective pixels and color mixture that lead to image degradation and also cause a decrease in the signal-to-noise ratio.
To overcome this Sony has newly developed a unique photo-diode structure and on-chip lens optimized for back-illuminated structures, that achieves a higher sensitivity and a lower random noise without light by reducing noise, dark current and defect pixels compared to the conventional front-illuminated structure. Additionally, Sony’s advanced technologies such as high-precision alignment have addressed any colour mixture problems.
