LX200R Series

LX200R

MEADE LX200ACF - THE COMA KILLER!

WHAT IS COMA? It's not some sort of astronomical state of unconsciousness. It's an optical aberration. Precisely defined, coma is a distortion in which the image of a star cannot be focused to a point, but takes on the shape of a comet. Worst yet, the majority of telescope optical systems, including the popular Schmidt-Cassegrain, have it to one degree or another.

Just look at the magnified view from any Schmidt-Cassegrain. You will notice the crescent-shaped distortion of the star images caused by coma. The n look at an image of the same stars from the LX200ACF Advanced Ritchey-Chrétien system and you will immediately see advantages of the ARC optical system. Sharp, round stars without coma. Sharp from the center all the way to the edge of this wide field.

Once, you would have had to spend tens of thousands of dollars for an aplanatic optical system (a fancy term for coma-free). Now that Meade has made the coma-free Advanced Richey-Chrétien optical system, this level of performance is affordable to the amateur.

Meade RCX400 Max Equatorial

RCX400 Max Mount

The last mount you'll ever need. And the first fully integrated system of its kind. The Max robotic mount is the largest, most capable commercial German Equatorial Mount on Earth.

The new RCX400 on the MAX Robotic German Equatorial Mount is the world’s first fully integrated telescope system (telescope/mount/software)! MAX is larger than Goliath and has a total payload capacity of over 400 lbs! (including counter weights). A beta tester commented on his experience with the MAX MOUNT by saying, "it’s built like a tank made by Swiss watchmakers." A few of its features include: 650 gear teeth on the RA and Dec drive (the gears are the same size on the RA and Dec. axes. The worm is 1.1667" in diameter and the worm gear is a massive 13.8" in diameter), 0-90 degree latitude, internal cabling, interchangeable quick-release dovetail plates, local/network control, remote/web control, 3 USB2 ports and a clutchless, fully-enveloped, hard-loaded worm drive. The MAX MOUNT and ALL RCX400 telescopes will be manufactured at Meade’s state-of-the art design and manufacturing facility in Irvine, California.

Meade 5000 Series ED Apochromat Refractors

Meade 5000

For crisp wide field observing and imaging, nothing can beat a true triple-element apochromatic refractor (APO). This is especially true in astro imaging, where APO's have produced some of the most beautiful images of the heavens ever taken from earth. But not all APOs are created equal. Today's market is filled with semi-APOs that don't bring all the colors to focus in the refractor. Thanks to a two-year design process and a triple objective lens made from the highest quality ED glass, Meade Series 5000 ED APO Triplets are virtually free of chromatic aberration (color fringing). This means they outperform the most expensive semi-APOs at a fraction of the cost. Expert observers will be delighted by the total absence of color fringing and the scope's textbook-perfect pinpoint star images. Even beginners will notice the breathtaking high contrast and resolution of a Series 5000 APO.
